Welcome to our newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to Term 2.
ANZAC Day is an important date in our school calendar allowing us to acknowledge the sacrifice made for our freedoms, and I was very pleased to see so many of our students attend the community ANZAC march.  On Wednesday last week staff and students celebrated a school Liturgy.  Thank you to everyone for their support.
Today we celebrated Mother's Day and Catholic Schools Week at St Mary's Primary with our school community.  Teachers and students prepared a Liturgy which was followed by morning tea and open classrooms.  It was lovely to see so many mums, dads, grandparents and friends attend.
Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in NAPLAN next week.  NAPLAN is an annual assessment and tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.
I've attached a link to a survey below which I encourage you to complete.
The results of the survey will help us plan services to families in our school community

Kiss and Drop Zone in Turf Street

Just a reminder that the Kiss and Drop Zone is currently signed as a one minute parking zone. This means that you cannot park your car in the kiss and drop zone for an extended period. The students arrive at Kiss and Drop at 3pm and are supervised in this zone until 3.20pm. Please consider arriving closer to 3pm for collection.

The Kiss and Drop is designed for you to stay in your car while your child enters the car. If your child cannot open the car door and secure their own seatbelt, you need to park your car and walk to the gate to collect your child. The Kiss and Drop Zone does not function effectively and becomes congested if there are any hold ups or delays.

The school does not request the presence of the Grafton Police to manage traffic at the front of the school. However, there is a regular police presence on Turf Street monitoring the safety of the school zone. Please ensure that you adhere to all traffic signs in the area to avoid fines.

Please check out our school Safe Travel webpage that details all the processes for travel to and from school.

Parking in Hoof Street

There are a small number of parking spaces near the Sunrise Shop (corner of Hoof and Turf Streets) for use by their customers.  To assist this small business we suggest parking away from the corner.

Bathurst Winter Sports Trials

Six students from St Mary’s travelled to Bathust for the Polding Winter Sports Trials in Hockey last week. Georgia Skeels, Olivia Peppernell, Stella Skeels, Max Lobsey, Oliver Inskipp and Jamieson Allen.  All our students played exceptionally during the trials and had some pleasing results. Oliver Inskipp and Max lobsey were both successful in being selected to represent the Polding Team at the NSW State Championships in Tamworth. Max was so impressive he was named as Vice Captain of the team. Well done to all our school sports representatives.

Zone Cross Country

St Marys sent a squad of 38 students to the Clarence Zone Cross Country Carnival at the Grafton Race Course on Wednesday. Fantastic planning and thinking outside the square was the reason we used the race course as our venue. So impressive was the venue, the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival will be held there as well on May 24. All of our students were wonderful representatives of our school and participated with enthusiasm. Congratulations to Max Lobsey(3rd) and Sabrina Golding(4th) who qualified to represent the Clarence Zone at the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival.

Yours in Sport
